Skill Spotlight:  Fractions

  • Subject: Math

  • Grade: 3

What is my child learning?

In 3rd grade, students build on the foundational knowledge they formed with fractions in 2nd grade. Students learn more about how to visually represent fractions and name fractions using a numerator and a denominator. In this activity, students will visually represent fractions using a rectangle and name the fractional pieces by describing the part of the whole that is decorated. This will help students build strong foundational knowledge for comparing fractions later in 3rd grade as well as understanding decimals and percents in 4th grade.

📅 Coming tomorrow

This week’s activity is called “Fraction Rug.” It’s a fun way to practice fraction skills. Look for it in your text tomorrow!
