Skill Spotlight: Story Elements
Subject: English Language Arts (ELA)
Grade: 1
What is my child learning?
This activity begins to introduce students to story elements. In kindergarten, students focus on sequencing events. As they progress through elementary school, they will gain a more complex and nuanced understanding of story elements and what makes a story complete and/or exciting. In this activity, students focus on the most basic level of what makes a story complete. A story has a beginning, where the author introduces the characters and setting; a middle, where most of the action takes place; and an end where things are resolved.
📅 Coming tomorrow
This week’s activity is called “Funny Animal Stories.” It's a fun way to practice creating and identifying story elements. Look for it in your text tomorrow!
