Skill Spotlight: Stillness and Mindfulness
Subject: Wellness
Grade: 1st
What is my child learning?
Through this rock garden activity, your child is developing self-regulation skills and mindfulness. By practicing being still and quiet like a rock, they are learning to control their body movements and become aware of their physical sensations. This activity also helps children develop patience and focus, important skills that support learning across all subjects. The increasing duration of stillness (10, 20, then 30 seconds) helps build persistence and challenges them to extend their attention span gradually.
