Skill Spotlight: Sentence Structure & Punctuation

  • Subject: English Language Arts (ELA)

  • Grade: 2

What is my child learning?

In second grade writing instruction, your child will learn a lot about language, including how sentences are built and what makes a complete sentence. This understanding that sentences are made up of certain parts, like a subject and a predicate, and that sentences begin with capital letters and end with a period, exclamation point, or question mark. Children need to understand how sentences are structured to write good sentences. They also need to pay attention to sentence structure and punctuation in order to read fluently and with the appropriate intonation. Intonation is the rise and fall of the voice, which helps give meaning to spoken language.

📅 Coming tomorrow
