Sonia Sotomayor, the first Hispanic and Latina Justice, was born

On August 14, 1954, Sonia Sotomayor was born in the Bronx, New York. She grew up to become a lawyer and eventually a judge. In 2009, after a lot of hard work as a judge, she became the first Hispanic and Latina Justice on the Supreme Court of the United States. The Supreme Court had been around for 220 years without having a Latina or Hispanic Justice! As a Supreme Court Justice, Sonia Sotomayor helps make important decisions about the laws of our country
